Crisp Autumn Comfort: Just 5 ingredients. I make it when I want a hearty dinner handled hours ahead of time so I can enjoy the crisp fall weather outside instead of standing in the kitchen.

Ingredients

1 pound dry cavatelli

1 pound Italian sausage, casings removed if needed

1 jar (24 ounces) pasta sauce

3 cups low-sodium chicken broth

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Directions

1. Lightly coat the inside of the slow cooker if desired for easier cleanup. Add the Italian sausage and break it into large chunks, then pour in the pasta sauce and chicken broth. Stir to combine the sauce and distribute the sausage.

2. Cover and cook on low for 3 to 4 hours, or until the sausage is fully cooked and tender. Use a spoon to break the sausage into bite-size pieces.

3. Stir in the dry cavatelli, making sure the pasta is mostly submerged in the liquid. Cover and cook on low for 30 to 45 minutes, stirring once or twice if needed, until the pasta is tender and has absorbed some of the sauce.

4. Sprinkle the mozzarella over the top, cover again, and let it melt for 5 to 10 minutes. Gently stir before serving so the cheese blends into the sauce and coats the cavatelli.
